By Juanita Smith“You are a cup” is a metaphorical statement Henry Blackaby made in Experiencing God: Knowing and Doing the Will of God. He was explaining the fact that we are instruments-channels for the Holy Spirit to use. But we do not initiate the action, the Holy Spirit does. The cup does not say to itself, “You look thirsty, think I’ll give you a drink of water.” No, the Holy Spirit fills the cup and positions it for service.
Even though the cup “knows” it is a cup-designed to hold water. It does not decide who to give the water to. That’s the work of the Spirit. Sometimes, because we know our spiritual gift, we mistakenly assume it is up to us to use it at will. That’s not so.
Even with a special gift…it is still the Master who directs the action. Our job is to stay in place and be available to serve.
“Wait I say on the Lord…again I say wait.”
